Technical Assistance Call Thursday (10/21)

Thursday October 21, 2021 at 2:30pm, Voices will be hosting a technical assistance call. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Reviewing the 2021-2022 Framework for Creating the Change Guide and Toolkit
  • Discuss the upcoming CORE trainings and expanded training opportunities
  • Voices Housing Assistance Services

As a reminder, at least one member from each region is required to attend each Technical Assistance Call; however, all are encouraged to join. If you have any questions, please reach out to Lauren Herod. As a supplement to the updated Framework for Creating the Change document, the Toolkit includes nearly 60 updated resources to assist every aspect of your work.

Victim Service Coordinators: Schedule Salesforce Training Appointments with Lauren

We are looking forward to rolling out the custom-built Salesforce software in order to make data collection a lot easier! Final Reminder: Register Now for the Open Doors Clinician Cohort Training

The annual Clinician Cohort Training will take place Tuesday, November 2nd and Wednesday, November 3rd at the Voices for Florida headquarters located at 111 S. Magnolia Drive Suite 4, Tallahassee, FL 32301. This is a mandatory training for all Clinicians serving in the Open Doors Outreach Network.
For Clinicians who will be visiting from outside of town, Voices for Florida is providing 2 nights of hotel accommodation at the Home2Suites Tallahassee, checking in on Monday, November 1st and checking out on Wednesday, November 3rd.
Additionally, Voices for Florida is providing reimbursement for one rental car and fuel per region, as well as meals according to the State of Florida rate. All reimbursements must include a receipt. Food reimbursement rates are as follows – breakfast: $6.00, lunch: $11.00 and dinner: $19.00 for a maximum daily amount of $36.00.

Perspectives Webinar: Sex Trafficking of Boys and Men

Free to participate. Moderated by anti-trafficking pioneer Nathan Earl, this webinar will discuss the roots of gender-based violence and provide practical tools around how communities can support male victims of sex trafficking. Speakers include Nathan Earl (moderator) of Giant Slayer Communications, John Long of U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking, Martha Marin of Kaiser Health Services, and Nilda Otero of More Too Life.

 

Hoyt’s Tool of the Week: Polaris National Survivor Study

For more than a decade, through operation of the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline, Polaris has built, used and shared the largest known data set on trafficking in North America. This pioneering work is now being expanded and deepened through the National Survivor Study (NSS), a scientifically rigorous research project developed in full partnership with survivors of human trafficking to gain insights that we can use to push for real and impactful change.
There are three ways to participate in this study. You can take a 30-minute online survey or participate in a longer focus group discussion or interview. All participation is voluntary and compensated. The next step is to determine your eligibility is to fill out a short questionnaire or call 1-888-693-1454.

Hear from mentoring programs sharing about their experiences with implementing the LGBTQ+ ally training pilot to help programs specifically assess if they are aligning practices to best support and include youth who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, the impact it has had on their program, and how this work can inspire mentoring programs to work to improve their own structures, policies, and trainings in their programs.

Bridging the Gap: Harm Reduction and Treatment Courts (Tribal Law and Policy Institute and Center for Court Innovations)
Wednesday, October 28, 3:00pm ET
Drug court practitioners and harm reductionists have a shared interest in improving public health and community safety. These two fields are also likely to co-exist and confront similar challenges for years to come. As such, this presentation represents a new and necessary conversation— one that will help to bridge the gap between the two contrasting paradigms. The training will provide an overview of what harm reduction is— its origins, evolution, and guiding principles— and highlight the benefits and challenges of integrating harm reduction in the drug court space.

What Every Adult Needs to Know About Child Sexual Abuse (Kristi House)
Tuesday, October 26, 2:00pm ET
This presentation is designed for parents who would like to be better equipped to prevent child sexual abuse from occurring and for adults working in or planning to work in child serving organizations. This class will assist adults to identify signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse, help them understand the dynamics of sexual abuse particularly the manipulative behavior of perpetrators, and provide them with skills to support open communication with their children to prevent future victimization. This class will also discuss in detail the additional programs and services offered at Kristi House. Curriculum developed by the Child Sexual Abuse Committee of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, funded by SAMHSA and Kristi House.
