Prior to receiving services, John* was committed into a juvenile justice facility due to irregular school attendance. After being identified as a victim of sex trafficking during juvenile justice placement, he began receiving services with his Open Doors team. With this support, he worked on his individualized action plan, which included earning a GED – no simple feat after his prior struggles in school.

John attested that “mentoring was the missing piece” in his recovery process. While receiving services, he became self-empowered enough to remove himself from the trafficking network. He not only successfully accomplished goals identified in his action plan, but with the of his Regional Advocate and Survivor-Mentor, he also was reunited with his mother!
