Safiya* is a young immigrant teen who ran from a family of abuse and met a “boyfriend” who began trafficking her. Upon being referred to the Open Doors Outreach Network, Safiya developed a close relationship with her Regional Advocate.

Recognizing that Safiya’s home environment was toxic, the Regional Advocate recommended Safe Harbor Placement and provided pivotal support in the case. After Safiya completed the Safe Harbor program she was placed in a group home, where she had an exceptional experience.

Undoubtedly, Safiya’s engagement in the Open Doors Outreach Network has helped her thrive. Safiya is currently prioritizing her education at a college prep school and is touring colleges in preparation for graduation. She also recently earned her driver’s license and passed the citizenship test. Safiya continues to receive weekly mentorship and therapy, which helped her no longer blame herself for her victimization.
